Quirky is a website where product developers can publish their idea and visitors (the crowd) can give advise, feedback and vote. The crowd gets (financially) rewarded for feedback and they can influence every step in the development process: from naming to prototyping.
Once the thinking and designing is over, the products can be sold and produced. Not produced and sold, but the other way around, since people can apply for / buy an item and then get informed about the current status of the product.

Crowd input = a product with high practical usefulness and there fore high commerciality.
Also, success in the product is guaranteed, or enhnanced by having the idea and design sorted out first before selling the product concept to people who will invest in it.
